“Left Behind” virtual screening on February 2

On February 2, join a virtual screening of the new documentary, “Left Behind,” hosted by Debbie Meyer, chair of the NAACP Mid-Manhattan Branch Education Committee! The screening takes place in your own home on Monday, Feb 2 at 6:00 PM. Registration is required to participate: Click here to register.

“Left Behind” tells the story of five tenacious mothers determined to establish the first public school in New York City for children with dyslexia. Addressing a learning disability that impacts an estimated 200,000 students in NYC, and roughly 20% of the public at large, the mothers’ struggle to upend the nation’s largest public school system and garner support to open the South Bron Literacy Academy in September 2023.

Debbie Meyer is a professor at Iona College and a member of the NYC Mayor’s Dyslexia Task Force.

The NAACP Middletown Branch’s Education Committee is proud to join in this virtual screening. Our committee has prioritized literacy by:

  • Promoting “THE RIGHT TO READ”
  • Connecting community members with the local library
  • Providing free books and literature about the literacy rate in New York State and across the country.
