The NAACP Middletown Branch will host a free showing of “The Right to Read” at Middletown Thrall Library on Saturday, September 6 from 12 noon until 3 pm. The film runs 71 minutes. Our showing will allow time to discuss the film and what actions we can take to better serve the next generation. Admission is free. Light refreshments will be available for purchase.
Reading is a civil right–and yet our education system is failing our students, leaving them unprepared to read at an adult level, and unable to thrive in adult society where literacy is vital.
“The Right to Read” shares the stories of an NAACP activist, a teacher, and two American families who fight to provide our youngest generation with the most foundational indicator of life-long success: the ability to read.
This showing is organized by our Education Committee. If you are inspired and want to get involved, please let us know!
