NAACP National tells Congress: No Healthcare? No Vote!

As a potential government shutdown looms and Congress considers a funding proposal, the NAACP has issued a clear and simple statement: Congress should not vote yes on any proposal that doesn’t protect Americans’ access to healthcare.

“America is only as healthy as its people. Nearly 24 million people rely on individual insurance purchased with the help of the Affordable Care Act’s Enhanced Premium Tax Credit. Now, Senators are considering a government funding measure that would not renew funding for the ACA’s tax credits, resulting in nearly 4 million people losing their healthcare coverage. And it would cause over 20 million people to see their premiums increase by an average of 75-100%.

Our Senators must not vote for any government funding proposals or Continuing Resolutions that don’t include extending the Affordable Care Act’s Enhanced Premium Tax Credits. The strength of the United States lies in our unity. We cannot allow ourselves to be divided by health.”
