NAACP Branch Elections take place every two years, in even-numbered years. All offices are open, as are at-large seats on the executive committee. Those elected will serve two-year terms, concluding at the end of 2026.
Please note the following General Membership meetings of the NAACP Middletown Branch, for the purpose of election of officers and at-large members of the executive committee.
- On August 18, 2026 at our 7:00 PM General Membership meeting via Zoom, we will vote on the date and time of the 2026 branch election. All members in good standing may vote.
- On September 16, 2026 at our 7:00 PM General Membership meeting via Zoom, we will appoint an election of the Nominating Committee. This committee will, within 30 days, interview interested individuals and name a slate of candidates for election. The Nominating Committee shall consist of 5-15 members. To serve your membership must be current as of August 16 (30 days prior to the meeting date). No more than two current officers may serve on the Nominating Committee.
- To be nominated for office, you must have been a member as of April 1, 2026 or earlier and your membership must remain continuous throughout the election process. You must live and/or work within western Orange County.
- The Nominating Committee’s slate will include one candidate for every office (2nd and 3rd Vice Presidents are optional) as well as any number of at-large Executive Committee members. The full slate must consist of a minimum ten individuals and a maximum of 24.
- If you are nominated, you MUST submit a written consent form to the branch before our October 20 meeting!
- On October 20, 2026 at our 7:00 PM General Membership meeting via Zoom, the Nominating Committee will present their slate for approval. All members in good standing may vote on whether to approve the Nominating Committee’s slate. Additional nominations may be made from the floor. At this meeting, the branch will also elect an Election Supervisory Committee. The Election Supervisory Committee communicates with the National NAACP about the election and addresses any irregularities.
- Anyone who has been a member since April 1, 2026 or earlier may be nominated from the floor. Nominations from the floor require a petition signed by three or more branch members who have been members since September 20, 2026 or earlier. The nominee must also submit a consent form at or before the October 20 meeting.
- The Election Supervisory Committee consists of five members of the branch, none of whom are candidates for election. In addition, each candidate for President may appoint one individual of their choice to serve on the Election Supervisory Committee.
- In order to sign a nominating petition, or be elected to the Election Supervisory Committee, a member must be current as of September 20 (30 days prior to the October meeting).
- In November 2026, on a date and time to be determined at our August meeting, the election of officers and at-large members of the Executive Committee will be administered using our electronic voting platform. In order to vote in a Branch election, one must be a member in good standing of the branch at least 30 days before the election.
Should a run-off election be necessary that election shall occur on a date and time to be determined. Run-off elections shall be conducted not less than ten (10) days after the original election.
We encourage every individual to familiarize themselves with NAACP election procedures, as outlined in the Election Procedure Manual. Please be aware that the National NAACP Board of Directors updated these procedures in June 2024, so if you have participated in previous elections there may be some differences.
